How to Buy Vehicles from Copart

Buying Power

Buying Power is the total amount you can bid on a vehicle. You must have Buying Power to bid and buy vehicles at Copart. Basic Members start with $2,000 in Buying Power, whereas Premier Members get substantial Buying Power.

If you’re a Basic Member, you have two ways to increase your Buying Power:

  1. Upgrade to Premier
  2. Add a Deposit

Upgrade to Premier:

Premier Membership is the best choice for most Copart buyers. Upgrading to Premier gives you substantial buying power without having to add additional deposits.

There are only two requirements to upgrade to Premier:

  • $249 annual fee

  • One time, fully refundable $400 deposit

A Premier Membership is best for Members who:

  • Plan to purchase multiple vehicles

  • Want to bid on multiple vehicles at one time

  • Want to avoid the time and hassle of adding deposits each time their bidding limit is reached

Note: Upgrading to Premier does not increase your bidding eligibility. Eligibility is determined by your current licenses on file and state requirements. Visit the Help With Licensing map for state licensing requirements.

Add a Deposit:

Basic Members who don’t want to upgrade to Premier can also increase their buying power by adding a deposit to their Copart account. Adding a deposit to increase Buying Power is best for Members who are purchasing only one vehicle. Deposits are required to be at least 10% of the desired bid amount.

  • Example: If you wish to bid a maximum of $3,500, a deposit of $350 is required before the bid can be placed.

To determine your current Buying Power, visit the Member Dashboard and look for the My Buying Power widget. All deposits are 100% refundable once all outstanding invoices have been paid in full. To request a deposit, sign in to your account, go to Account Information page and click on 'Deposit Refund.'
