5 Tips for Success with Project Cars
1. Determine your goals with project cars.
Will you be flipping project cars for fun or profit? Defining your goals will help determine what types of cars to search for on Copart. Classic cars are excellent hobby vehicles because they're fun to work on and can be something to show off. Newer models might be ideal if you’re looking to refurbish project cars to sell to others.
2. Do your research on restoring project cars.
Unless you’re a mechanic, body shop technician, or advanced auto pro, doing research ahead of time will prepare you for the work involved in fixing up a car. Watch videos on YouTube, read blogs and forums, and talk to a local mechanic who can give you safety tips and renovation advice.
3. Browse, inspect, and buy project cars.
Join Copart (it’s free) and search our inventory of over 50,000 potential project cars. Once you find several project cars you like, add them to your Watchlist and inspect the ones you're most serious about. Then bid on your favorites!
4. Create a plan for completing your project.
For each of your project cars, set realistic deadlines for when you expect to be completely finished with them. Then work backward, breaking what may seem like huge projects into smaller, more manageable chunks.
5. Roll up your sleeves and start working on your project cars.
As soon as you have a project plan in hand, jump right in! Don’t let your excitement wear off by procrastinating. If you can, join a car club in your area through a website like Meetup.com. Meeting with other people who are similarly interested in project cars will inspire you to see your projects through to the end.
