Idaho Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in Idaho? You have the green light!

This means you can purchase clean and salvage titled vehicles without business licenses.

If you're buying in another state, view the State Licensing Overview.

In Idaho, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters are recommended to provide Copart an operational license and sales tax license for the same physical address, as well as sales tax exemption forms. This expands bidding eligibility for those looking to buy in states that do require licenses. Idaho non-dealers will be charged sales tax.

Operational licenses include, but aren’t limited to, dealer licenses (Vehicle/Vessel, Used Vehicle/Vessel, Wholesale, and Motorcycle licenses) and the dismantler license (Junkyard license). These are issued by the Idaho Transportation Department. Don’t forget to get your seller’s permit, issued by the Idaho State Tax Commission. Wholesalers may submit the Idaho Sales Tax Resale or Exemption Certificate in place of the sales tax license.

Additionally, please complete the following forms and submit them to our Licensing Department via our License Uploader. These documents will be processed within one to two business days of receipt. Click here to watch a tutorial video on how to use the License Uploader.
