Maine Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in Maine? Without business licenses, you will need a Broker's help to bid on clean and salvage titled vehicles in Maine. If you're buying in another state, view the State Licensing Overview or search our No License Required inventory.

In Maine, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters will need to provide Copart an operational license, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms.

Operational licenses include, but aren’t limited to, dealer licenses (Used Car, Motorcycles, Light Trailer, Heavy Trailer and Equipment licenses), the dismantler (Recycler) license and business (Loaner and Transporter) licenses. All of the licenses may be obtained from the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Maine Revenue Services can issue the Resale Certificate. This must be signed and have items to be resold (“autos” and/or “auto parts”) written in.
