New Mexico Licensing Requirements

New Mexico Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in New Mexico?

Without business licenses, you will need a Broker's help to bid on clean and salvage titled vehicles in New Mexico. You can purchase boats, jet skis and snowmobiles on your own without assistance, however.

If you're buying in another state, view the State Licensing Overview or search our No License Required inventory.

In New Mexico, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters will need to provide Copart an operational license, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms. Members who do not submit the optional Series 1992 Nontaxable Transaction Certificate (Type 2) will be charged sales tax. This can be obtained from the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.

Dealer licenses, including Retail, Wholesale, Motorcycle, Trailer, Recreation and ATV, are also issued by the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, along with the Auto Recycler dismantler license. Business licenses may be acquired from your local municipality.

These links provide the forms and information you need to get started with licensing:

Additionally, please complete the following forms and submit them to our Licensing Department via our License Uploader. These documents will be processed within one to two business days of receipt. Click here to watch a tutorial video on how to use the License Uploader.
